The story
Buddha Dordenma
Buddha Point, Thimphu · Bhutan
The statue that fulfills two prophecies — an 8th-century terma and a 20th-century yogi's vision.
The statue fulfills two prophecies: the 8th-century terma of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) and a 20th-century prophecy by the yogi Sonam Zangpo — both said a great statue would be built in this region "to bestow blessings, peace and happiness on the whole world." A prophecy waited twelve centuries. It now watches over the entire capital, in gold.
